What are these?

I've noticed at a few stations (eg Lindfield 2/3) something on the ends of the
platforms. It is a slightly raised concrete square, about the size of a
computer screen, on the platform surface, with 4 bolts, one in each corner, and
a bright orange electrical pipe sticking up out of the middle. There are also
lines of new bitumen where trenches have been dug then filled in to hook it up
to the nearest power source (ie a lamp post). Anyone know what it is?
