4D (ie. DDDD) - only kidding!

No it does not.  Train describer numbering system is not rollingstock specific,
rather it consists of:

1st digit - Line number (ie. "1" for Clifton Hill group, "2" for Glen
Waverley/Alamein/Box Hill/Blackburn/Ringwood locals, etc.)

2nd digit - [For sparks only] 0 to 5 for train operating direct to/from Flinders
Street; 6 to 9 operating via City Loop

3rd and 4th digits - Trip numbers (ie. Even number for up, odd number for down).
