David
The original (Comeng) XPT bogies were modified versions of the British Rail
HST design. I believe the bogies fitted to the later cars built by ABB (the
noisy ones) used a design based on the Westrail Australind. I do not think
this is a pommie design, then maybe it is. Anyway, anybody who has tried
the ABB XPT sleeping cars will surely agree with Trains magazine, which
likened the ride to being in a cement mixer. I hope they (ABB) do better
with the next lot.
