Hi Anita,

Thanks for posting the article. I actually wrote to our local member (Jackie
Kelly M.P.) saying much the same thing about 18 months ago. Got the stock
standard reply though (government is committed to look at all the
alternatives, rhubarb, rhubarb, rhubarb).

What nobody seems to be saying (apart from those who are interested in both
trains AND planes) is that given the number of aircraft movements on the
Sunshine Coast / Brisbane / Gold Coast / Newcastle / Sydney / Canberra /
Melbourne corridor, a high speed railway from Brisbane to Melbourne via
Sydney would remove just about all of the air traffic from this corridor
(apart from BNE/MEL where the rail journey time would be uncompetitive with
the flight time) thus eliminating the need for a second SYD region airport
for a very long time to come.
