Maybe only males are supposed to like trains? I have met women transport
enthusiasts, though not many.

Hmm. Several years ago, soon after the Bundoora-RMIT extension of the 86
tram in Melbourne opened, my wife went over to Melbourne for a weekend
shopping trip with her sister from Cairns. I asked my wife to go out on
the new extension to get some photos of it for me. She did, and took
lots of photos. The conductor (they still had them then) noticed her
taking photos, asked her why, then took one of her with the conductor's
bag on, posing in the doorway of the tram at the terminus.
