Re: [SA] Adelaide hills line

The alternatives aired in this group include:

(1) Max Michell's eastern Mount Lofty ranges re-alignment/regrading
(Yantaringa - Callington), combined with lowering of tunnel floors at Sleeps
Hill, National Park, Long Gully, Upper Sturt and Yantaringa.

Variations of (1) suggested by Neil Waller, diverting through Mount Barker
and taking a more southerly route to ease the gradient/curve problems on the
eastern side of the Mount Lofty ranges.

(2) Provide a standard gauge triangle at Monarto South near the Big W
warehouse then upgrade existing SG track through to Apamurra and convert
unused BG track through to Cambrai to mainline SG, then new track to
Angaston, then convert Barossa lines to SG with a small amount of dual gauge
track near Gawler then convert one of the BG tracks to SG through to
Salisbury with an additional SG line from Gawler - Angle Vale - Two Wells.

(3) Upgrade existing track, reinstate track on old alignments and build new
track to allow high speed SG running from Melbourne to Roto via Griffith.

All of these options would cost a good deal less than the new Freeway tunnel
near Eagle On The Hill.

Arthur.
