Debateable. I personally would be happy to see either all standard, or all 
broad, but neither will ever happen. 

Standardisation out west had a more dire social impact, as that literally 
killed any hope of easily getting a pass service out to Dimboola. For that, 
I would have preferred to see at least dual guage to Dimboola. Interstate 
stuff could have gone through fine, and we wouldn't have had a broken 
system (at the moment at least grain is broken up into both broad and 
standard guage, as is a lot of other goods).

What is the track distance from Ararat to Dimboola btw? There might still 
be hope (:
