Re: Ex-Westrail D class rebuilds for Tasrail

The new cabs on these locos are going to be the standard "modular" cabs for
use on all mainline locos in New Zealand. The D class are the first to have
them fitted (even though they will be going to Tassie!).  The cabs are
designed , as I understand, to replace any cab damaged in service and at
overhaul time.
Unfortunately I have no idea when the locos will be completed for shipping
to Tassie but heard a rumour that they maybe retained to fill in for the
three locos that were involved in the head-on at Waipahi.  It is only a
rumour but who knows....
