I've just received an report about the possibility of a sleeper train
(with 11 NDAF wagons) operating from Dubbo on to the presently disused section
of the Mudgee line south of Gulgong so sleepers can be unloaded. It is not
known how far the train would operate along the disused track or what
locos would be used (though presumably 48s would be necessary). The
train is reportedly scheduled to operate for three days from tonight
(27/10) using Dubbo FreightCorp crews to Gulgong and Mudgee ones (yes there
still are Mudgee crews mainly for the Ulan coal trains) south of the
junction.
Times are as follows: Wed
Dubbo 2330
Gulgong 0600 (Thurs)
Gulgong 1100
Thurs
Dubbo 2330
Gulgong 0600 (Fri)
Gulgong 1100
Fri
Dubbo 2330
Gulgong 0600 (Sat)
Gulgong 1100
The return arrival times at Dubbo are around 1700 on each day.
The Kandos - Gulgong section of the Mudgee line is scheduled to be
re-opened post Olympics by December 2000. Regards
Derek
