Aus loco discussion mailing list
Hi
For info on TGR Z1-4 and ZA1-6 and the QR 1300 and 2350/2370 classes
(Tasrail ZB and ZC class) I can recommend the following :
http://www.tased.edu.au/tasonline/railtas/info/tgrclass.htm
ZA5-6 continue in service, while ZA4 is apparently stored, probably awaiting
motive power decisions from Tasrail management- the GM locos which seemed
destined to replace the EEs have not lived up to expectations.
2353 became ZB4 and is stored, 2356 was probably ZB7 and was scrapped, while
2373 became ZB16 and was scrapped, I think after coming to grief rather
spectacularly in a derailment on the North-East line.
With the 1300s I think the renumbering is a bit tricker, but Mike Dix who is
a subscriber to this list should know the details.
A few 1620s went to the Philippines and were used on the rebuilding of the
Philippine National Railway's only substantial line, from Manila to Legaspi.
(For those who want to know what the old North Australia Railway must have
been like, I recommend a ride on this rattler- great fun!) Owned by John
Holland Constructions and painted in an eye-catching red scheme. I believe
they are no longer in the Philippines. There was a link to a picture and
some info on these locos on Brad Peadon's Philippines site but the link is
not working- not sure that this site is still active.
Cheers
Ben
