The alarm went off at 1.00am, it was raining - it took a lot of will
power to get out of bed and make a phone call to see if the log train
to Hume was running on schedule, half hoping it had been cancelled so
I could go back to bed. Did the three hour drive to Tarago, raining
all the way, and caught up with the train at 4.50am just as the rain
stopped in just enough light for useable video. Got some more segments
in good light at Bungedore, Brooks bank and Queanbeyan. On arrival at
Queanbeyan, G533 which had been leading X38 (cabin leading) was
relocated to the Goulburn end of the train and the consist was worked
push/pull to Hume, but not without first sticking up on the grade
approaching Hume, which made for some spectacular video.
Then drove back to Medway quarry to record the NRC trial, this was the
first time NR class locos had run on the branch line - NR33 & NR108
had the honour. An NRC empoyee who was there said that their DL class
locos will take over from FreightCorp from November 1st. As the NRs
pulled their train away from the loading area three 81s on no.9245
empty limestone arrived, the crossing took place in the quarry yard
thus providing a photo opportunityof the "old and the new".
Now that I've finished sending this report, I'm going to bed after a
long but rewarding day of videoing - I hope nothing interesting
happens tomorrow cause I'm staying home!
Bevan Wall.
