The FV log train arrived for loading at Hume this morning at about 9.20am, a
couple of hours late. Apparantly the log train was a little late getting
away from Goulburn then had to wait some time at Bungendore for a cross with
the Canberra passenger train. The G class loco led X38 (both in orange and
grey V/Line) and it was uncertain what type of configuration would make the
return journey. A push-pull operation was unlikely today. It was also
uncertain whether the train would "be turned" at Tuggeranong or go on to
Royalla which has longer sidings. The return journey today will not now be
the scheduled 10.00am departure from Hume. It is more likely 3-4pm this
afternoon although this has not been confirmed. The derailment at Douglas
Park may have some bearing on the times. According to a Freightcorp chap I
was talking to later, it's possible that freight trains (like the Canberra
oil train for example) could go to Goulburn and remain stabled there until
the derailed section is clear. He also said that it was unlikely that the
derailment would be cleared within 24 hours.
Regards,
Brad
