Over the new year period this year I visited the Eyre
Peninsula. With most states winding down operations during the Christmas/new
year, the train down there seemed to do the opposite. There were four trains in
and four out each day out of Port Lincoln, with two sets of triple NJs, one
triple 830, DA-830-830, one spare 830 and a DA shunter for the grain
discharging. Over at Thevenard DA7-850-873 were allocated to the gypsum train.
Most of these train operated in daylight. I am going to this region again for
the new year period and can look forward to a long drive across and a hectic one
week period to get as much as possible.
