Not quite.  NSU51 was the first to operate on the standard gauge, for the 
demonstration run it was felt that a better speed could be built up on the 
standard gauge and there were more coaches available. NSU52 was the first 
onto the narrow gauge.

Apparently NSU54 also worked on the SG bogies early in its life, shunting 
and also working the odd mainline train to Port Pirie. A photo of that would 
be a rarity!

(This info is from the re-released Locomotives and Railcars of the 
Commonwealth Railways.)

So for any CR SG modellers who are sick of the bullnoses, there's an excuse 
to have an NSU nudge it's nose into the scheme of things.
