Re: SCT Derailed at CORIO

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Futher to Graham's Report.
The site at IXL Corio/Lara, is a mess. It is alleged that an hot box was
the cause. As the train passed over the V on the grade crossing at IXL the
wagons took the wrong turn and tried to go for a trip down the West BG line.
resulting in the train pulling apart. 6 wagons in total are in the dirt and
several meters of rail on the SG and BG have been torn up. heavy cranes
have been bought in to re rail the train. Both East and West BG lines have
been closed. UTFN.

On the Train working side. The first 3 ups ex Geelong ran empty cars
through the site on the East line for Carriage balancing, in Melb and then
the work commenced. all Down Geelong's are being terminated at Lara, and
returned to Melbourne. 8207, Dn Warrnabool, arrived at Lara 0943 and
returned empty cars to Melb, at 1059. loco running Tender first. having the
R at Lara, bought a lot of people out. The WCR train had no choice but to
come to Lara, as it was too hard to get buses ex Melbourne. (I certinally
did not mind having a steam loco puffing away outside the back yard for over
an hour)

Dont know how long before the line opens.

A FV G class (No. Unkown ) is at IXL waiting for the wagons to be rerailed
and will return the damaged stock to Melbourne. sometime today/tonight.
