in the very middle of this photo (immediately to the left of the pile
of bogies) that looks like a scrap yard .

(to Melbourne), top is south (so Western Hwy is at top out of
picture).  Down points at right were reversed. 

Ballast train in siding had arrived from Maryborough (from left) and
was stationary in the siding (there's one compressed ballast hopper
still attached to the left of the G).  Up G on grain train (from
right) came around the curve on a 1 in 50 down grade at 80 km/h ---
wouldn't have even had time to dump the air.
