I had my immediate suspicions when I heard the name on last night's
news.   The photo and his age in this morning's SMH more-or-less confirmed
it.   I had first met Michael as a member of the School Railway Clubs
Association when he used to "annoy" his local Station master at
Helensburgh.

Michael had only just responded to me on a very detailed questionnaire
concerning the Silverton working of the Cobar ore trains and the new
operations to Port Kembla - obviously sent on the day he went to work for
the last time.

We have lost a very informative contributor.

My condolences are extended to his family, who still reside at
Helensburgh.
