Whats so good about Bulldogs? Its obvious that none of the corrospondants
have had to work on them. The NSW units were noisy and rough riding. The 42
class were banned from being lead units because of the noise .With the Main
Generator whining away behind you it was impossible to talk to your mate
unless you were standing right beside him any wonder most enginemen are half
deaf. The 421class although a bit quieter were very rough riders, so bad
that they were banned from the Western Division. Going to Nowra on one was
an exercise in trying to stay in your seat as the engine tried to copy a
small boat in a rough sea such was the bouncing around. Then we got the
CLPs whose cabs were designed for midgets ,the reason that the hump is in
the middle of the cab roof is for anyone over 6ft tall to be able to stand
up straight .
I could go on with why Bulldogs should be in Museums and not out on the road
but I want to go to bed.
