Re: 421 class Liveries
Aus loco discussion mailing list
Guys !!!!!
Regarding the discussions on the 421s (and Patrick excuse me for the plug I am about to give). Please see Graeme Bolton's article in Diesel Scene 3 on the history of the 421s. Most questions raised so far are answered in that article.
Expanding on that info.
1) 42110 ended its days in the modifed Indian red livery.
2) 42104 was painted in a reverse livery that was not the one everyone was used to seeing. It did have thin lines but was not issued to traffic in that pattern. A photo appears in the AMRM mag (earlier edition this year - not sure which volume).
3) 421s were NEVER allocated to Parkes when on the west - it was always Bathurst depot. They were sent out to assist in handling the additional traffic generated by the opening of the new standard gauge line thru the Hill to Pirie. They were all nominally allocated to Bathurst and all saw service out west.
Regards
Peter
