The following report is from my cousin, Andrew Plunkett, in Capella, Nth
Qld (near Emerald) , with a snapshot of typical operations up there. He is
a regular contributor to Sunshine Express, but can't subscribe to Ausloco
from his work email address.
Interesting that there are still diesel worked coal trains west of
Rockhampton "under the wires" . I remember photographing the coalies (2
d/e's on the point and 2 in the middle worked by radio control) through
Dingo before the overhead went up - a very impressive operation.
Hope this is of interest to some of us "southerners" !
Regards,
Paul

These are my notes which I have already posted off to the Sunshine Express.
1502 Class 1506 shut down at Bluff on Sat morning 6 Nov. 1512 and 1520
shut down at Rockhampton Loco on Sat afternoon 6 Nov.
2100 Class On Thurs afternoon 4 Nov 2100H hauled 18 VAO wagons of Blair
Athol coal south through Capella. On Sat 6 Nov the wagons were sighted
positioned on Pacific Lime's siding at Parkhurst. Over the past several
years Pacific Lime's coal had been trucked from Blair Athol to Parkhurst.
2400 Class On Sunday afternoon 7 Nov an 83 wagon Yongala loaded coal train
was sighted departing Dingo after a cross being hauled by 2481 + 2210 +
2463 + 2479. The consist made quite a noise as it climbed the grade slowly
out of Dingo. It is presumed that it was going to be a slow trip to
Gladstone for the crew.
35-36 Class Electrics. 3503 + 3613 with 3627 + 3619 mid train were sighted
at Dingo heading west with an empty coal on Sunday afternoon 7 Nov.
39 Class Electrics. 3906 hauled the Spirit of the Outback east through
Blackwater on Sunday afternoon 7 Nov.
