RE: Silverton Ore Train

>From what I can see driving past about 15 minutes ago the locos are both
shutdown and no crews about. The 48 actually had six bottles strapped in
two groups of three either side of the Silverton name on the observers side
of the loco.

Silverton #31 is to be used for some testing of alternate fuel sources. As I
understand it the engine will run on a mixture of both diesel and LPG. These
tests were to have been carried out recently but as I understand things were
postponed due to the busy schedule they have at present.

In Narromine at the moment Silverton locos 31 and 35 are putting their train

into storage. This seems odd as I thought they would take their train
straight to Cobar or Parkes which ever way they were going. 4872 and 4888
are loading wheat on the main line to Parkes at the moment. This is no
reason for Silverton to put away, as they could stand in the loop until the
wheat finished loading.
Can anyone explain the reason why Silverton loco 31 would have gas cylinders

strapped to side of it? They look like the 100lb bottles and there was
about 4 or 5 strapped to the side standing up.
