Rave/Party Train

Gentlemen,

The train consist (from the west end) at Spencer Street was

For the bus fan Quince's Scenicruisers provided a number of Mercedes 0405 /
Pressed Metal Corporation route buses for the station/club/station transfer.
The whole shebang was very well organised with everyone wearing ID passes
and plenty of announcements made over the PA concerning depature times &c.

We decided to head north perhaps as far as Heathcote Junc. We departed
Spencer Street at 0545. Just north of Craigeburn the red fuel light starting
flashing so we decided to not go as far as Heathcote Jcn but instead turned
off at Summerhill Road about 4 km north of Craigeburn and parked just near
the LC. Hear the line is relatively flat and straight so at least we could
get some good lineside shots.

The SG stick was at 'red' so we assumed that a cross with the up XPT was on
the cards probably at Somerton Loop. Sure enough at around 0625 the lusty
chant of twin Paxman engines was heard and the XPT roared through with
whistle blaring and a friendly wave from the driver. My friend Jason (who is
relatively new to the joys of train chasing) remarked along the lines of
"%$#*#&%# these XPT move fast!"

About 10-15 mins later a headlight on the horizon coupled with the distinct
sound of a GM and Alco combination was heard and the special rolled through.

Other notes of interest...
* BHP's Long Island based Y class shunter was noted in the NR steel yard.
Any reason for this.
* G.543 was at Dynon and 529 (sans stripes/signwriting) was noted with a Y
shunting FV's container terminal. The FV livery on the G looks awesome.
* WCR's R.711 headed to Ballarat on a special.
* Finally was able to get a close up shot of a NR C shunting. It has been
said before but these brutes still look and sound awesome unike the
relatively bland NRs...
