SL 65

Afternoon All

With the Saturday morning domestics out of the way, and knowing that
42219 would be leading 4514, a quick run to Harden seemed to be in
order, slowed in the trip by the need for Mylanta, arrival at Harden
South box was not until 1155, a listen on the scanner revealed a 3317 at
Cunningar wheat silo.s,( about 4k,s north of Harden) loaded and ready to
propel back to Harden yard, ST 3 was 10 late, and that SL 15 was on
time, a trip to South Box, ( wipe your feet or be prepared to get a
mouthful ) elicited the info that SL 65 was about 90 down, a quick
wander around town and back to the station found ST 3 at the station
with a rather clean and tidy 2010 leading , with rain in the offering we
decide to go out to Cunningar to await SL 15 and SL 65, at 1345 in good
sunshine 42220 and cars passed, some 10 minutes later SL 65 rounded the
curve and blasted through, ( I mean they BLASTED through, with a BASS,
Boom Boom Noise machine Thingy set up in the middle cars, the sound of
the train passing was extinguished by the noise from this thing), A
quick run to the Coota side of Morrisons Hill caught 42219 - 4514
rounding the curve to Jindalee just as YN 2 approached,( shortly after
the heavens opened, with some 12mm of rain falling ), after crossing the
Bethungra hills into reasonable sunshine a couple of photo,s were taken
at the site of the station, we then paced the train from Illabo to the
Junee distant signal the sight and sound of the 422 & 45 working away
was awesome ( and some of the sights hanging out of the windows were
pretty good to), with the stick at stop we assumed that SL 15 had not
completed its run around and departure for Griffith, as such we had the
sight of 42220 departing the station, crossing over three tracks to gain
the branch line, while 42219 sat at the stick awaiting access to the
station, where an extended stop was given in order for more supplies to
be procured , and some of the more adventurous to have a quick look at
Junee,s hotels, with a quick lookover of all the running gear by the
ACT fitters, the pilot driver on board, SL 65 departed at 1525 with
suitable whistles and goats of exhaust smoke,

( a bit long winded, but it was a great chase, may do the same tomorrow)

Yours, Pete Kilburn BTW
                      Junee
