Re: DL's in NSW

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Guys !!!!!!

It would appear from recent sightings that there have been several locos returned to service when checked against the 1/9/99 list.

My reckoning is that DLs 38, 40 and 43 are back (Graham Elliott picking them up coming thru Gheringhap + other sightings)
BL31 is back (on the Gheringhap report and confirmed by Bruce Mead who got it in the Adelaide Hills a few weeks back).

As a guess, I would expect a few more may come back once the NR Hunter Valley push-pull starts up.

On the subject of that branch line at Murray Bridge. I checked it out last March. The branch shot off the mainline opposite the station and then crossed under the mainline (and the highway) to end up at river level on the south-western side of the river. There are several sidings, a crane and a number of wagons in this area. The whole area was having money thrown at it and was becoming a very pleasant spot for the average tourist to have a break. No locos were present. Judging from the number of tracks in the area, it must have been a busy place for rail/shipping transfers. A shunt loco was used at Murray Bridge for eons back in the 'good olde days' (Rx's and 500s).

Regards

Peter

Aus loco discussion mailing list Peter,
you have confirmed my suspicion that DLs and other stored NRC units are being returned from storage. As at 1/9/99 it was reported that the following were stored:
  DL: 36,38,39,40,42,43,46,48
  BL: 26,28,31,35
  C: 501,502,503,504,506,507,509,510

with C503 probably the worst out of the C class, it seems that all the C's, if not All of these locos, are in perfectly good condition, and they could all be reinstated.. are there any others that are unlikely, or are they all pretty good?
