Christmas Day on the Short North
Aus loco discussion mailing list
It wasn't totally shut down on the Short North today (Yes, I'm still here ! Desubscription time tomorrow).
Apart from the GSPE, whilst travelling up to Gosford this morning on the 10 49am Intercity service from Hornsby, I noted two NRC superfreighters in succession on the Up - I think the first one had 4x NR's on it, and was a lengthy (and loaded) train.
Incidentally, with the Intercity service timetabled to get people visiting rellies etc to the Central Coast in time for Christmas day lunch, you'd think Cityrail could do better than rostering a 4-car V set. With luggage and piles of Christmas presents occupying spare seats, the service was packed leaving Hornsby, and the Christmas spirit rapidly evaporated as many people , including elderly, were forced to stand .
Oops, wandering off topic. Patrick asked for favorite lash-ups from this year. I think my favorite has to be the 6 x GM combo we saw arriving a midnight at Tailem Bend yard on an empty grain on 18 September - couldn't photograph it, but quite an impressive sight. The best photographic result was the day before, with 5MA3 led by GM44, freshly outshopped two days previously, GM37, CLF1 and CLF2. What made it special was our uncanny ability to pick locations with full sun that morning when the entire Hills were shrouded in cloud! Every once in a while you get it right.
Merry Christmas, all.
Paul
