Aus loco discussion mailing list

Now, with almost 200 Members subscribing to AusLoco, I suppose its
inevitable that the List's GUIDELINES/RULES will be forgotten from time to
time.

As is quite apparent from the name, AUSLOCO's 'Focus' is PURPOSELY a narrow
one. And I remind all Subscribers of that PURPOSE, which is outlined below
!!

This is not a NEWS or DISCUSSION Group (Railpage's AUSRAIL is) but rather a
Mailing List.

As Mailing Lists utilise E-Mail 'Protocols' the are more suited for SHORT
(Under 10KB's) Postings that are, to the point and/or strictly within the
AREA OF INTEREST of the 'List and DEFINATELY do NOT contain any unnecessary
'overheads' such as ATTACHMENTS.
Mailing Lists are also more suited for 'time critical' messages. And
recently, a good example of this is the 'Grapevine' for the EL's on MS7.
Though, admittedly, from time to time there will be problems with the
LISTBOT Server which may create some delays. But this is also the same for
ONELIST and all the others that who HOST Mailing Lists.
But, usually, a Posting will only take 5 to 10 minutes before its on your
ISP's Mail Server, ready for you to 'download'. Regardless of which part of
the world you live !!
Mailing Lists are also an excellent 'medium' for requests for information,
assistance and, indeed, also requests for 'images'.
BUT, replies and where appropriate, ATTACHMENTS (e.g. JPG Images), MUST be
'OFF the List'.
I.E. Reply to the Author.
Though it is considered Mailing List 'etiquette' for the person requesting
the information, to 'Summarise the Replies' on the List, this is usually
left to the Subscribers discretion.

THE FOLLOWING IS AUSLOCO'S GUIDELINES/RULES :-

PURPOSE

    • A Forum for discussing CURRENT Australian and New Zealand
       motive power trends.

    • A Forum for discussing past Australian and NZ motive power.
Steam, diesel and electric, and which has since been withdrawn
       from service.

    • To allow overseas RailFans to gain an insight into Australia's
       and NZ's varied motive power.

    • To provide assistance for railway historians and reseachers,
       wherever possible.

    • To provide a 'Grapevine' for known 'rostered' workings which may
be of interest to Subscribers. Especially in a photographic context.

    • To provide a 'Warning' mechanism for imminent or proposed motive
power changes, including those which may fall into
       the 'Rumour' category.

    • To allow 'Trip Reports' to be Posted.
Either in a 'storyline' or a tabulated format.

    • To provide an opportunity to 'reminisce' a bit !!

   RULES

The following is not permitted on this Mailing List :-

    • Personal attacks or Flaming of any nature.

    • Argument purely for the sake of argument.

    • SPAM or Mass Mailings.

    • Anything offensive or in bad taste, including pornography.

    • Inappropriate material, such as chain letters and virus warnings.

    • E-Mail Attachments.
This can be done of the List, simply by asking for those
interested to E-Mail the person Posting with a request
for the relevant Pic or whatever.

    • Using this List SOLELY for the purpose of Promoting or Advertising
Magazines, Books, Videos, Tours, Web-Sites, Etc.

    • Government policy or labour issue discussion not directly related
to the topic of motive power.

    • Criticism of Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation.
We've simply got better things to talk about !!

CONTINUAL ABUSE OF THESE RULES IS GROUNDS FOR UNSUBSCRIPTION
