According to reports I heard, the driver survived (He exited the cab as
he knew the accident was inevitable, and forewarned everyone in the first
car to duck. From the news photos seen so far, it would appear that the
fatalities will have been in the vestibule area and the left hand side of
the single deck area.
Alas, my sympathies go to all the people involved in this accident today,
the passengers, the families of the deceased and injured, the crew, and
ultimately the people left to clean up the mess. Another sad accident
that could have been avoided.

Michael
p.s. Does anyone know what happened to the loco from the Kensington grain
siding in Vic today? My count indicated 11 VHGF/VHGX hoppers, but no
locomotive, as is almost always stabled toward the end of the #2 road
there.

Is there any word on how the crews of either train
faired? Presumably the IP crew would be ok but what about the
driver and clippy on the interurban.

Just saw it on the 1100 news, the front car on
the interurban looked pretty bad on the drivers corner. The news said
that a rail worker came running through the first car telling people to
brace themselves(wonder if it was the driver ?).
News said six confirmed dead and four still in a critical condition
New phone number for concerned friends/relatives is 1800 805 156
Just when we thought it only happened in the UK or US
