[Ausloco] The Cairns-Carinda Bash!

27-5-2000
Hi everyone,
First day in FNQ! Not to much to report because, officially, it is family day.

Passed a QRX DH class at Woree, it was shunting, but I was 1 minute too late for a photo (story of my life).

Before leaving Sydney there was some speculation as to whether the Bally Hooley Express still runs at Port Douglas.
I am glad to say it does and managed to convince HQ to go for a ride using the "its a tourist attraction" excuse.
It leaves Port Douglas (Marina) at
10.30, 11.30, 1.30, 2.30, 3.30, 5.00
each day. The trip taking 15 minutes each way.
The loco to St Crispens was diesel loco Mowbray. Not sure of the make at the moment, so if anyone can help with that, it would be appreciated ?????
By surprise, Bundaberg Fowler #2 "Bundy" was used on the return to Marina.

Then it was off to Mossman Mill where Ivy, Douglas, Cook, Daintree and a little Malcolm Moore were on shed awaiting the upcoming season.

Nearly an hours drive from Mossman, via Mt Molloy (hi Steve) and we found 1748 (blue) on a molasses train at Mareeba.
Definitly the highlight of the day.

More reports as they happen.
