[Ausloco] West Australian News

4-8-2 'W' Class No. 903 hauled an HVR passenger train to Gingin
yesterday in conjunction with the British Car Club Rally.
Unfortunately passenger loadings were down and only four ex South
African coaches were required. This trip is normally stream/diesel, but
as a result only the 'W' was utilised. The train returned tender first.

WA's only operating 'XA' Class , XA1401 'Pedong' will be making an
outing on 27 May 2000 to Collie in tandem with a 'W' Class steam loco.
The HVR run train will originate from Perth with the 'XA' and 'W' being
attached at Pinjarra. With XA1405 & XA1402 now almost certain to never
run again, with ARHS (WA) now concentrating their efforts away from
running ex WAGR equipment, it will be a rare opportunity to see the
characteristic plumes of smoke emmitted by the Crossley HST V-8 engine.

In other XA Class news, XA1415 'Wurara', preserved in a park at
Narrogin, south of Perth, is soon to be moved to a new location near the
station as part of the Narrogin bypass road project which will pass
through the XA'a current location. This should alleviate any further
vandalism which this loco has been subject to. Generally it is in good
condition with the most components still present.
The station, which has been badly vandalised, is also to be renovated as
part of the project.

Also two ex Midland Railway brakevans were noted at Kojonup on 13 May
2000. Could these possibly be ARHS owned?

Cheers
John
