RE: [Ausloco] Orange derailment

At 1750 yesterday (Wednesday) evening, 8149 looked close to rerailed, if
not already. 8035 still stood close by. A few workers still toiled,
but most had gone, as it was quite dark. At 0615 this morning, 8035 /
8149 / flat wagon stood on the Dubbo leg of the triangle, adjacent to
East Fork box. The 80 seemed to be shut down, so I don't know if it was
to tow the 81 itself, of if they were both awaiting a Sydney-bound
freight to amalgamate with. I'd expect the former.

The local paper claimed the Orange Police were not impressed at not
being informed of the accident when it happened - they found out about
it on the news. Railways officials claimed that since no-one was hurt,
nor was there any danger to the public, notification of the police was
not considered necessary.

It was also stated that the use of cranes was ruled out due to the
closeness of power lines. The expectation as of Tuesday was that the
line would be cleared and reopened by 6pm Wednesday, so they weren't too
far off the mark.
