QR4000 Class

Aus loco discussion mailing list

As this email is being written 4004+4002+4003 are hauling an 83 wagon loaded
coal train from Gracemere (10 km west of Rockhhampton) to Callemondah. This
is apparently the first (?) fully laden train hauled in this direction by
4000 Class locomotives.

9F01 arrived at Gracemere from the west with 2137+2189F+2151+2209 on the
front. 4004+4002+4003 were stowed in the third road until just before the
arrival of 9F01. 4004+4002+4003 were then backed onto 2137+.... 4004 and
2137+2189F+2151+2209 were then switched off-line to idle. The train was
driven from 4004 with only 4002+4003 providing the power.

While this activity was going on the loop, 3915 passed through on the main
line from the west to Rockhampton LE. Usually an electric LE heading to
Rockhampton means there has been a loco change on a westbound train from the
south. This changes usually occurs at Gracemere, but as the loop was
occupied by 9F01, it must have happened further west, possibly
Stanwell/Warren or Westwood.

About 5 minutes after 3915 departed, 3302+3405, 3413+3643 passed through
with a loaded coal train.
This is the second set without a "pie cart" (loco-control wagon). 3633, and
now 3643, are fitted with the newer equipment (Harris?) inside the
locomotive, thus removing the loco-control wagon and allowing another
revenue wagon to be added. These electric hauled coal consists previously
had 102 wagons, but now have been increased to 105 wagons.

9F01 departed at 1750 following 3302+3405......, one section behind.

Cheers,

Bruce
