Re: Hamersley Iron SD50

Alan - I couldn't tell from the print in "Trains" whether 6063 still had its
silver bogies or not - they looked very dark, so it may have been demoted to
a "paint job" by now!

The main loco news in the UK of relevance to Ausloco (apart from "Pendennis
Castle") is that the railway here is actually beginning to sound more like
parts of Australia. EMD loco's now proliferate on many freight services and
new high speed Bo-Bo loco's are being introduced for mail train services
etc. I was recently standing on a station platform South West of London
when a container service passed through headed by one of the 1960's built
(previously Sulzer engined Class 47) Freightliner loco's. Some of these
have been recenty re-engined with EMD 645 engines and by closing my eyes
(and ignoring the sub zero temperature!) I could almost imagine it was a NSW
422 class racing by on the main South (it is hard to realise that is now
history as well...).

Whilst the EE loco's in Australia (outside Tasmania) are very rare now (are
any 500 class still running in SA?), they are even beginning to disappear
very rapidly over here and must have a very limited life left on the main
line railway.

If there's anything specific you want to know about things happening here,
let me know and I can give you more details off list.

All the best,

Tim Parsons
