The new Westrail S class and the QR 4000 class are 12 cylinder but have
the 'new firing order' crank and cams as well as electronic injection and
ICE. This is a much smoother package and the engine vibration is minimal.
None of that technology was available in 1993 for the 82s and whilst it
could be fitted to 82s today who would pay for it?
Cheers
Bob

V-12 have always had a problem with harmonics. This goes for 645 & 710 engines.V-16 never had such harmonic problems.
Perhaps some engineer can elaborate.
A NSW version of the WA 'Q' class might have done a better job.
