Hi all,
DA7 uses the frame, bogies, engine/generator and all other control
equipement from 4813. The long hood was taken from 870 which now wears
4813's long hood still in red terror livery. 870 has had an unlucky life. In
1990/1991 it was severly damaged at Islington Freight Terminal in a shunting
accident. It suffered body damage and a severly bent frame. It was repaired
and sent to the Erye Peninsula.
During 1997/1998, it suffered a bent frame again during a derailment. It was
withdrawn and sent to Pt.Augusta Works for storage.
In regards to NT's 69,73 and 74 they were all transfered from the the narrow
gauge Orroroo and Wilmington lines. NT74 snapped its crankshaft during 87/88
and was cut up in 89. NT69/NT73 were stored for a while and then cut up in
1990. While they were cutting up NT69, sparks started a fire under NT69
which spread to NT73's fuel tank. The fire totally destroyed both units. Now
only NT76 remains as the only one left in an operable condition.
Cheers
