Freightcorp Happenings

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Evening all,
Prompted by Bob's message yesterday, I contacted my source re 8010 being ar
Chullora.
It was confirmed that it had donated "this & that" to keep the others going.
All this is rather academic as I was advised that it is indeed Freightcorp's
plan to withdraw the 80 class en masse commencing as early as this week-end.
Apparently non-corporate liveried 8003 and 8027 are the first to go and the
plan is to have only sufficient 80 class on hand to run the White Bay /St
Marys sandstone trains.
Their place on trip trains and other 80 class working is to be taken up by
81 class which have in turn been replaced on wheat working by 82 class units
which have been rendered surplus to Coal Road requirements due to an
apparent down turn in coal haulage tasks.
All of this is yet to be "officially" documented but appears to be quite on
the cards.
So, get your shots of the 80s whilst you can for who knows if they will have
a "third coming".
My how things have changed since yesterday!
Likewise I'd better get my shots of the double 48s on container trains that
have suddenly appeared on Botany line workings as they may disappear just as
quickly.
Personally I hope this doesn't happen, given my love of Alcos.
Regards
Ivar Sorrasson
