Too late now but according to the crew it was to be the remaining six locos returning. 
I heard a train going up through Farmborough Heights about 17:00 which had a loud and unusual sound, could have been GE+GM.

Chris, Danny and myself followed this train all the way from Mossvale down the mountain early this morning
for the benifit of tracing the return you mentioned are all locos returning except the one EL?? Don.
