[Ausloco] Re: Loco D3 619

G'day all,

An article in today's "Riverine Herald" (Echuca's newspaper and I have
sought and received editor Annette Gregson's approval to post this!) states
verbatim as follows:
 quote...
" An historic Bendigo-based steam loco currently being restored could, in
12 months, be used daily between Bendigo & Echuca.
Restoration of D3 619 is a joint venture plan between Great Northern Rail
and the City of Bendigo.
The loco has just been transported from Goninan's workshops to the Great
Northern Rail roundhouse factory in Bendigo.
There it is being stripped and rebuilt by GNR.
City of Greater Bendigo Executive Manager of Tourism and Economic
Development, Leighton Farrell, said the total restoration was expected to
take 12 months.
"This service will link up Bendigo with the paddlesteamers on the Murray and
the return of a rail link to the Port of Echuca," Mr Farrell said.
He said it was possible that D3 619 could be used on a daily service between
Bendigo and Echuca.
"It could also be used for weddings, receptions, school excursions and murder
mystery tours," he said.
Mr Farrell said D3 619 would also be used on other runs around Bendigo. It
is expected the loco will be back in use in late Autumn."
unquote...
I have posted this article from today's local paper as an interest item
only, please don't email me on or off-list as I do not welcome questions
associated with it!
I suggest list subscribers contact the City of Greater Bendigo if they want
further details.

See Ya AH
