Interesting happenings at Central last night about 9pm - from a distance I spotted a set of stainless steel sleeping cars over on No 1 platform. I was curious, it was far too late to be the IP, and looked like the RTM's set of cars, so I went over to investigate.
According to Lindsay, the RTM cars were returned to Thirlmere that morning from Melbourne, so what were they doing in Sydney? By the time I got to No 1 platform, they'd disappeared, cleared for the 9.35pm Brisbane XPT. I could however see them being shunted further over the yard, but with no unit on the Redfern end.
I hastened back down No 1 , and walked right across to No 11 platform - nothing. What the...? How can you lose a train in that time frame, or am I imagining things? The mystery was eventually resolved when I found them neatly tucked into what is now the dead end storage siding between No 7 & 8 platforms, very effectively hidden by two stowed sets , and construction work on the concourse. At the buffer stops end was 4306, No 2 end facing towards the concourse. No sign of any other unit, unless it had left earlier. I doubt the RTM would let the 43 out by itself.
Anyone know where it was going/ had been?
Cheers,
Paul
There was something posted this morning to aus.rail about 4306 and 4211 being at Central last night, I assumed it was a typo and they meant 44211. They were asking what the train was doing there too.
Regards,
Chris.
