Wow, thanx for all those prompt replies.  It's clear that the 1943 Malcolm Moore
V8s weren't the first internal combustion locos built in Australia by several
decades!  However, you could probably still claim that the Malcolm Moore loco at
Mossman, and any others at sugar mills, are the oldest Australian-built internal
combustion locos still in commercial (not preservation/tourist service).
Doubtful they'd be on the original motors though.
