The one big difference between 442's & 700's is in the area of the staff
exchanger which on Jumbo's is on the left hand side (or driver's side) of
the carbody, where the 700's had the staff exchanger on the righthand side.
It would appear that these staff exchangers were removed in later years &
the opening plated over whereas I do not recall any 442's having had the
staff exchanger openings plated over.
Another difference between the 2 is that the 700's were air conditioned in
later life with no Jumbos in government ownership having been air
conditioned prior to disposal at the 1994 auction.
I have checked these details in photos published in South Australian Diesel
Pictorial the 80s which has excellent shots of 700's in their various forms.
Best regards, Ivar
