Satellite Radios etc

Aus loco discussion mailing list
Can anyone cast any ideas on this?  Is it true or not?

Check this out for weird and wonderful.
It seems the US lost a satellite and all radio comms somewhere in Canada for something like 5 weeks, all because of solar activity.
They are spending heaps of dough on figuring out what's going on, including shooting a couple of satellites into space.
I was wondering if the implications of this sorta stuff could cast their shadow across our radio systems ( remotes, TCO radios and the like).
There was a National Geographic program a few weeks back with all the facts and figures, but I never saw it, this has been relayed to me as having potential.
It also appears that the US railroad BNSF are also a wee bit worried as it appears that their TWC is run from a satellite that tells them where the trains are to within a few meters, and are scared in case the satellite gets sun burnt.
Food for thought perhaps?????
