Sightings 10/1/00

Aus loco discussion mailing list

I was doing some photography this A.M. near my home at Canterbury, and
saw the following frieght workings which may be of interest.
0948 - 80??/8046: Down 'Stonie'
0954 - 8159/8160: Up 'Stonie' (unusual motive power for this train)
1040 - 8005: Up trip train
1044 - 8169 + 18 conflats, Down freight
1053 - 8160/8159: Down Light Engine
1115 - 8015: Up Light Engine
1145 - 8248: Down mixed train, consisting of RSA sleeper wagons (loaded)
and 6 covered 'NPZH' wagons. Some wagons bore the legend 'Special
Weighbridge Train' (or words to that effect). A very interesting train
that the 82 worked hard to shift. The points to the Pax/Goods line
crossover at Campsie were thrown to allow the train to work on the
suburban lines (I think) as the signals ahead of my position changed from
Green/Green to Green/Red (this is correct practice I hope).
1150 - 8153/8177: Down freight. the first 2 wagons behind the locos were
NGRX wagons with the 'Griffith-Port Botany Rice Traffic only' legend and
faded 'SunRice' decals, the rest were 15 heavily (2 of 3 slots) loaded
conflats. This train stopped at Canterbury station for 5 minutes to allow
8248 and train to clear the road ahead.

I hope my morning's work was as interesting and informative as it was for
me.

Scott
