Aus loco discussion mailing list
This train is now in the sidings immediately west of Penrith station and
consists of :
NR81 (On my scratch pad I've written it down as NR81 however Andrew has
noted it as NR71 - Given my past accuracy with loco numbers, I may have got
it wrong)
Container flat - vandalised number
Torpedo ladle car 6
Container flat - RQFX 46
Torpedo ladle car 4
Container flat - RQCX 995P
Torpedo ladle car 2
Container flat - RQFX 28B
Freightrail Accomodation car AH811 marked "SPECIAL and OUT OF GAUGE LOADS"
The torpedo cars would each have a capacity of around 230t of hot metal,
hence the double bogies at either end. At its widest point the barrel is
over 10ft in diameter and is constucted of 1 1/4 inch plate, lined with 18
inches of refractory brick.
Catch it while you can!
All the best,
Rob
