Dubbo and Parkes 2/1/00

Good morning, all.  I hope the hangovers have gone (not much else to do
when there are no real trains running)!!  With a rare day off work
yesterday, and the weather clearing after a week of cloud and rain; also
with the cricket delayed by Sydney rain, I made a spur of the moment
decision to drive to Dubbo and Parkes and check out the yards.  380-odd
kms and 5 hours on the road, but locos galore in Parkes!!

Dubbo, 1430: 48100 / 48135; 8149; 8212 / 48153 / 48165; 48162; 48113;
48111; 4894; 48114 / 4889.  48153 (blue) is very tatty, though the cab
sides and roof are quite freshly painted (with freightcorp logo).

Parkes, 1630:

depot: yard - 8113, 8144; NR49 / NR99, NR109; NR60; 48s30 / 48s35; 48s31
/ 48s37; 8211 / 8166 / 4897 / 4896; 8244 / 48102 / 4893 / 48128 / 48107
/ 48118; roundhouse - 442s3; 442s2; 48s32; 48s33; 442s6; 442s1.  4514
was also beside the turntable, fenced in.
48s30 and 31 are both in the new colour scheme, but have "30" and "31"
in their illuminated number panels, whereas 48s35 and 37 have the
complete number designation.  32 and 33 remain in the old colours, as do
442s1, 2 and 3.

goods yard: 8104; 48117 / 48123, 4892; 4898; 4846 / 48138.

46 units in total.  With so many units, Parkes reminded me of my regular
visits to Dynon in the mid 80's, with almost as much colour variety,
though everything was shut down and silent!
