Aus loco discussion mailing list
Hello all
I think the NT book in preparation is a Railmac title- it is listed as
"coming" in 2000 in their latest Narrow Gauge Journal.
The expert on the NTs is I think, Nic Doncaster, not sure if he is on this
list though. He should be able to comment on the sound of these units,
having recorded their operation during their last stand on the Eyre
Peninsula during 1984-1989.
Despite my wondering aloud about the mu-ability of NJs and NTs, all
available info on the Pt Lincoln Division indicates that they did not mu
with NJs over there. The NTs were originally intended to be utilised to
bring grain loading into Port Lincoln which had been reduced on account of
the heavy haul over the Pearleah bank. They did go on to work further
afield, even working the gypsum trains for a few weeks. But it was the NTs'
incompatibility with other loco classes which was said to be their death
knell.
Cheers
Ben
