Have since found out that there has been a refuelling point set up adjacent to No.3 road.  
The Xploder set was 2525 / ? / 2504 with only the motor of the first car running.

Sighting at Canberra station by my 'Roving reporter' (Gerardus) phoned in at 10:18...
No.1 road (platform) - empty
No.2 road - 8011 on the front of the oil tanks  -  no sign of an assistant 48
No.3 road (ex-Arnott's Biscuit shed road)  Exploder set with engines running and people wandering around it - rare to see one on this road.  Is it possible that the early morning Canb. - Syd. Set has failed, hence its removal to No.3 road probably by the 80 class?
