Western report

Aus loco discussion mailing list

Over the weekend Narromine played host to 442s1 and 442s3. I contacted
Silverton Railways in Parkes to find out the general way of things and their
loco allocations. Generally the way it works is that the 48's work west of
Narromine to Cobar and return. The train the Newcastle uses the NR's from
Narromine to Newcastle and the ore train to South Australia uses the 442's
from Narromine to Parkes. There is no timetable but the trains tend to
arrive in Narromine about 2am to continue their journey about 1 hour later.

Yesterday NR40 was heading west from Parkes with the Trailerail
service. Through Bogan Gate at 8.45 and pulled up at Yarrabandai at 8.58. I
turned off here and did not keep up the chase.

Last night Silverton locos 32 and 48s35 were coupled together as
were 33 and 48s37. Today 48s30 and 48s31 were coupled with 33 siting by
itself. One assumes 30and 31 worked a train from Parkes and 32,35 and 37
went to Cobar.
