Stabled in Narromine

Silverton 48's 32 and 35 were stabled in Narromine for the last couple of
days, but are now on the hot track to Cobar and return. It's interesting to
see the old and new liveries side by side and the deeper colour of 32
compared to the 'newer' 48's. In their place NR 52 and 27 have taken up
residency. NR 52 being in indigenous livery.
 
    I stuck my head under the leading bogie of NR 52 and noticed a device
fitted that had a guide up against the leading wheel. Is this to do with
tyre wear or some other thing?
