This was the situation until very recently, but with the sale of the 8
RSA Alco's at Chullora to GNRS without any more notice than an alleged
advertisement in a newspaper somewhere, this "policy" seems to have gone
by the wayside.
What of the 422's, with variou srumours of sales to other organisations
including overseas? The RTM does not have a 422 yet.
One could well imagine the use that ANY main line runner could make of a
422 tucked in behind their (token) steam locomotive and driven from the
steamer, as is done in Victoria with R711.

The RTM was allocated these units by the SRA/State Rail/whatever it is
called this week as the "official" preserved units. There has been no
disposal notices re the rest of the 442's, 422's or the 49's.
3801 Ltd has requested and received 4908 and 4918 for the Cockatoo Run.

If you are RTM or 3801 Ltd, yes. If not, then you have to wait for the
official disposal process to be activated (if indeed the policy is
followed, see above) and then meet the requirements of the SRA Heritage
Branch. Some groups are successful, others are not.

Is 4801 "preserved" by the Railways? My understanding is that this unit
is too far gone for preservation. I'd like to be proved wrong on this
point.

And the result is the (half baked) half price policy - administered by
the SRA Heritage Section, allegedly with reference to the various
preservation groups but in practice a power unto itself.
How many of the preservation groups are happy about the outcome of the
last round of disposals? Lets hear from the Groups, eh?
Cheers
