I posted this a couple of nights ago and it appears not to have returned
from cyberspace. I'll try it again.
Evening all,
I though I might convey some of the workings that occurred on the short
north over Easter 1969.
We left Central at around midday on 'Black Thursday' 3/4/69 with 4626
hauling a NIB set on the second division of the Flyer. The first
division was worked by the usual HUB set whilst a third division was worked by
a end-platform set !!!
Central had the usual suspects - 3107,3003,3124,3085,3042,3135 & 7920
on shunting duties, whilst 4625 & 4879 were noted ready for later
passenger duties.
5246 was noted at Redfern as was 4637 heading for Central. X201 was
busy shunting the Carriage Works. At North Strathfield, 4005 and 4532
were noted on separate goods trains whilst 48125 was shunting. 48128 was
likewise shunting West Ryde at 1.20pm.
4611 was at Hornsby on a goods at 1.30pm whilst 4499 was spotted on an up
goods at Woy Woy Tunnel at around 2pm. 2.50pm had us at Gosford as 3813
arrived on the up Flyer. Our 46 was replaced by 4486 for the run to
Fassifern. 4601 and 4604 were noted in the yard.
We continued north, noting a real stranger for the north in 4912, which
was refuged at Morriset on an down goods. 4001 was noted at Dora Creek
on an up passenger whilst 5365 was noted shunting Awaba.
We finally arrived at Fassifern at around 3.45pm and headed up the bank
to set up camp. The procession for the late afternoon was as

between 8pm and 930pm we had 3822 come through on a Down pass and 3820
running light engine on the up. A 59 also came through on a up
goods. 6026 was on an up goods at 9.30pm.
We decided that a good way to spend the rest of the night was at
Broadmeadow loco and we travelled up there late in the evening. (I think
by a 620/720 set). We arrived at Broadmeadow at around 1045pm and
noticed 3828 on an up goods. We stayed around Broadmeadow and inspected
the depot until 2am, noticing the following:
3024,3076,3077,3108,3654,3813,3820,3822,4003,4498,5183,5248,5362,5365,5400,

We travelled back to Fassifern in the very early morning on a Sydney
bound Mail hauled by a 40 class (unfortunately I didn't get it's
number).
It was now Good Friday 4/4/69. I'll post this very interesting
day's working shortly as part 2.
Regards
Mark
